As Idaho prepares to enter Phase 4 of reopening, how is your organization planning for a safe commute back to the office? With employees traveling from different locations and using a variety of transportation options, identifying your employees’ commuting plans and concerns is an important part of your organization’s strategy. Commuteride assisted the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) in developing recommendations to inform employers, commuters, and communities on how we can all get back to the workplace safely and efficiently. Check out the highlights below and view the full report here.
Start a Discussion
Understand your employees’ commuting concerns and discuss preferences, healthy practices, and employer guidelines (e.g., limit carpool/vehicle size, ongoing telework policy, suggest face coverings. etc.).
Be Flexible
If feasible, continue to allow employees to work from home. In other cases, provide additional time to get to work due to bus and vanpool schedule/route changes related to health and safety measures.
Promote Safe Ridesharing
Encourage your employees to search for a carpool partner, vanpool, bus, or bike/walk route on ShareTheRideIdaho.com or the Commute Tracker app
Share Updates & Info
Direct employees to Commuteride to learn about temporary policy adjustments and health and safety measures
Carpool Parking
Provide low or no-cost parking for carpoolers, or designate a preferred parking space close to the building
Provide Clean Facilities
Inform employees of your bike parking areas, showers/lockers, and tune-up stations, and consider a more relaxed dress code on bike/walk days
Share Updates & Info
Direct employees to Valley Regional Transit to monitor schedule/route changes and health recommendations
Invest in Technology & Plan for the Future
Support employees working from home with the tools and equipment they need and establish formal telework policies to outline eligibility and set expectations; download Commuteride’s free telework policy templates here.
